Site Wizard: Logging in

(Applies to version 3 and later)

If the website requires you to log in, check the Site requires logging in box.

If you want to be prompted for you username and password each time WebStripper downloads the site, select Prompt me for details each time I download, or select Log me in automatically and enter your username and password. Note that password storage within WebStripper is not secure and should not be used for sensitive information.

If you select Prompt me for details... WebStripper will not be able to do automated downloads of the site (ie downloads through Scheduling, automated Updating or via the command line).

After you log into a website you will probably be redirected to a particular page. WebStripper provides a mechanism to allow you to start the download at a different page if you want. On the Address page of the Site Wizard specify the address at which you want to start the download. On the logging in page select Log me in at this page option and, in the box below, enter the address of the page at which you log in.

To log in on the same page you start the download, select Log me in at the starting page.

Technical note: If you log in to the site using HTTP authentication (via a pop up window) then you can log in and start the download at any page, but using the above option won't hurt. The option is intended for sites where you log in using a form on the webpage itself.

WebStripper provides a way to test that your login information is correct before starting the download. Click the Test login button to be led through the process. See Test Login Window.

Logging in may fail if cookie support is turned off. It is set on by default when you start a new website, but to check it is on, select Show all in the bottom left of the wizard, go to Options and make sure that Store cookies is checked.
